Police Watchdog Investigating Man’s Death After He Allegedly Consumed Substance At Peterborough Car Dealership

PETERBOROUGH-The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 28-year-old man this afternoon in Peterborough.

Preliminary information suggests the man died after consuming a substance at a car dealership.Police say at approximately 2:15 p.m. on August 11, 2023, a Peterborough Police Service officer was travelling on Parkhill Road West when he observed a vehicle being operated in a careless manner and the officer attempted to stop the vehicle. Shortly after, that vehicle became involved in a single-vehicle collision in the area of Towerhill Road and Chemong Road. The driver of the vehicle – a 28-year-old man – entered the Peterborough Volkswagen dealership and became involved in an interaction with staff.  According to the SUI when officers entered the dealership, the man – who appeared to be armed – consumed a substance.  At some point, the man became vital signs absent and first-aid was administered. He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Four investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
