Catholic Priest In Peterborough Charged With Sexual Offences Against A Minor

PETERBOROUGH-Peterborough Police are concerned there may be more victims after a Catholic Priest was charged on Wednesday.

On July 26th 2023, Investigators with the Peterborough Police Services, Sexual Offences Unit, arrested and charged an adult male with Sexual Assault and Sexual Interference.

Sexual Interference is when a person, for a sexual purpose, touches, directly or indirectly, with a part of the body or with an object, any part of the body of a person under the age of 16 years.

The accused is an ordained Priest with the Catholic Church and has been working in the City of Peterborough since late 2022 according to police. Investigators are in contact with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Peterborough, who are cooperating with Investigators.

The identity of the accused is being released as the nature of the offences lead us to concerns there may be other victims.

33-year-old Neil Pereira, 33 of Peterborough is charged with one count of Sexual Assault and one count of Sexual Interference.

The accused will appear in Court on August 8th, 2023.

No additional information is being released at this time, as this matter is now before the Courts.
