KAWARTHA LAKES-a 39-year-old Lindsay man is facing multiple charges and a loaded firearm was seized during a traffic stop on Monday.
Police say at approximately 8:00am the Kawartha Lakes Police received two reports from concerned citizens about a possible impaired driver in the area of Hamilton Street and Durham Street in Lindsay. Officers located the vehicle parked on Lisbeth Crescent; the driver was slumped over the steering wheel with the vehicle engine running according to police. While speaking with the driver the officer reportedly observed signs of impairment and a firearm on his lap. Police say the officer conducted a gunpoint arrest, the suspect complied with the officers’ demands and was taken into custody without incident.
Officers seized the firearm and determined it was loaded. During the investigation, a Drug Recognition Expert conducted a drug influence evaluation on the driver. While in custody the male threatened to cause harm to another individual according to police.Â
As a result of the investigation, 39-year-old Jonathon Young of Lindsay has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Carry Firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
- Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
- Possession of prohibited device or ammunition for dangerous purpose
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order – X7
- Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm
The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice located at 440 Kent Street West in Lindsay.Â
