Heavy Rain And Thunderstorms Possible Today

KAWARTHA LAKES-Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough with heavy rain and thunderstorms possible today.

Officials say localized heavy rainfall with 30 to 50 mm is possible this afternoon and evening. Showers have already developed over some locations this morning. Thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon. These showers and thunderstorms will be slow-moving and could produce very localized heavy rainfall if they remain in place over one area.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible according to Environment Canada. Heavy rainfall in combination with other weather factors, such as hail, wind and lightning will make outdoor activities unsafe.
