Peterborough Man Charged In Drug Overdose Death In 2022

PETERBOROUGH-Peterborough County OPP has laid charges in relation to a fatal drug overdose investigation in August of 2022.

On August 20, 2022, Peterborough County OPP responded to a single-vehicle collision where the vehicle left the road and entered the ditch. Officers located two individuals who appeared to be in medical distress. According to police Officers were able to successfully administer naloxone to the passenger, who survived. The driver, a 32-year-old male from Peterborough, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision.

On May 30, 2023,35-year-old Matthew Kulla of Peterborough was arrested and charged with Manslaughter, Causing Death by Criminal Negligence, Traffick in Schedule I Substance – Cocaine and Traffick in Schedule I Substance – Other Drugs.

The accused was held for bail and was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on May 30, 2023.

The investigation is continuing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB). Investigators are actively looking for further information regarding this case.
