KAWARTHA LAKES-A two-vehicle collision has claimed the life of an OPP officer and a bus driver northwest of Woodstock.
The collision happened shortly before 7:00 a.m. on May 29, 2023, at the intersection of Highway 59 and Oxford County Road 33.
According to the OPP, an unmarked Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) vehicle and a school bus collided in the intersection. Both drivers died as a result of their injuries. There were no students on the bus and no passengers in either vehicle.
35-year-old Detective Constable Steven Tourangeau was with the Huron-Perth Community Street Crime Unit, Perth County OPP Detachment, West Region.
Peterborough Police Service lowered their flags after hearing of the death of the officer.
“Condolences to his family & colleagues. Condolences as well to the loved ones of the school bus driver who died in the collision.” said a statement on Twitter.
Kawartha Lakes Police Service also expressed condolences on Twitter.
“Kawartha Lakes Police send our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of OPP Detective Constable Steven Tourangeau of the Perth County OPP Detachment and the citizen who passed away following a tragic collision earlier today.”
The identity of the bus driver has not been released.
“We are deeply saddened over this tragic incident, as two families mourn the loss of their loved ones. I offer my deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues affected,” Â said OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique.
The London Police Service will be taking over the investigation.
