UPDATE:The lockdown at Fenelon Falls Secondary School and Langton Public School has been moved to a hold and secure by the OPP.  A hold and secure is when exterior doors are locked and classroom routines and lessons continue. Staff and students are safe.

KAWARTHA LAKES-Fenelon Falls Secondary School and Langton Public School have been placed in lockdown by the OPP for public safety.

Police are investigating and more information will be provided when it is available. Officials ask that parents/guardians do not contact the school.

A lockdown is a safety measure initiated when there is a threatening incident or threat of school violence in relation to the school. During a lockdown, all classrooms will be locked so that staff and students are safe in their location, and no one is allowed to enter or leave the school.

The OPP says it is investigating an incident in the area of West Street South, Murray Street and Wychwood Crescent. Residents are advised to avoid the area.

Sources say there is an incident involving a weapon at 11 West Street. Police have not yet confirmed that. The Emergency Response Team and the OPP helicopter are on the scene.
