Fentanyl And Meth Seized, Officer Hospitalized After Exposure To Drugs In Highway 7 Traffic Stop

PETERBOROUGH-An OPP officer was hospitalized after exposure to illicit drugs during a traffic stop on Highway 7.

Members of the Peterborough County OPP responded to a traffic complaint regarding a possible impaired driver on Highway 7 at approximately 12:00pm on January 28, 2023. The driver was found to be under the influence of drugs according to police. Police say a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of fentanyl and methamphetamine. One officer was treated and released from a local hospital after suffering exposure to the drugs during the search according to police.

30-year-old Brandon Orrett  of Gilmour, has been charged with:

• Possession of a Schedule I substance-other drugs

• Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on April 5, 2023.
