Charges Laid In ATV Crash That Killed An Eight-Year-Old Passenger

KAWARTHA LAKES-Central Hastings OPP officers have laid criminal charges in relation to a fatal all-terrain vehicle (ATV) collision.

On October 22, 2022, just after 5:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of a single ATV collision at a residential property on Highway 62 in the Municipality of Centre Hastings.

An 8-year-old passenger was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Police say a 45-year-old from Centre Hastings who was operating the ATV has been charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with:

·      Dangerous operation causing death – section 320.13(3)

·      Operation causing death – section 320.14(3)

·      Operation while impaired, blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) – section 320.12(1)(b)

Central Hasting OPP continues to investigate with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) and Reconstructionist.
