Lakefield Teen Charged After Allegedly Crashing Car And Fleeing From Police

KAWARTHA LAKES-A 17-year-old driver from Lakefield is facing charges after allegedly crashing a car and fleeing from police.

Peterborough County OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision on County Road 32 at approximately 12:30pm on September 10, 2022. Police received a report that a car left the roadway and was involved in a collision near the Rotary Greenway Trail and that the driver and passenger fled the scene on foot. Police say the driver was located at a nearby residence and was found to be under the influence of alcohol. No injuries were reported at the time of the collision.

The 17-year-old driver from Lakefield was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration-80 plus

• Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs

• Fail to remain

• Novice driver-blood alcohol concentration above 0

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on October 24, 2022.

The Peterborough County OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight.
