PETERBOROUGH-Two GTA men are facing charges and an officer was injured after an incident Thursday evening in Peterborough.
Police say at approximately 7:00pm, officers noticed two people in a stolen vehicle that was being driven in the Chemong Road and Wolsely Street area. Officers attempted to take the occupants into custody when the vehicle entered a drive-thru but the driver fled the scene without putting the vehicle in park and it rolled forward pinning an officer against a wall according to police. The passenger in the vehicle was taken into custody and the vehicle moved, freeing the officer. The officer suffered minor injuries, but no medical treatment was required at the scene.
Officers chased the driver on foot through several backyards before he was taken into custody a short distance away.
Police say the vehicle had allegedly been involved in a brief police pursuit in the Aylmer Street and Sherbrook Street area in Peterborough on the evening of August 9th before the pursuit was called off. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Toronto earlier on the 9th.
During the arrest, officers seized 45.9 grams of fentanyl, 18.3 grams of crack cocaine and Canadian Currency.
As a result of the investigation:
A 19-year-old Oakville man was arrested and charged with:
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Other Drugs
- Dangerous Operation causing bodily harm
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 – in Canada
- Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court
A 21-year-old Scarborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Fentanyl
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Cocaine
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 – in Canada
Peterborough Police do not release the names of people charged.
