Driver Charged With Impaired After Allegedly Almost Colliding With Two Police Cruisers

PETERBOROUGH-Peterborough County OPP charged two people with impaired driving yesterday including one who police say almost hit two cruisers.

Police say they stopped a vehicle that was driving erratically and nearly collided with two cruisers on Highway 28 at approximately 7:00 p.m. yesterday evening. According to police the driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

41-year-old Selena O’Hanlon of Caledon, was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration-80 plus

• Dangerous operation

Meanwhile earlier that day police responded to multiple traffic complaints regarding a possible impaired driver on Highway 28 yesterday afternoon. The vehicle was located at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Buckhorn Road. The driver was found to be under the influence of drugs according to police.

52-year-old Christopher Sawyers of Municipality of Trent Lakes, has been charged with:

• Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs

• Possession of a Schedule I substance-opioid (other than heroin)

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on September 15, 2022.

The Peterborough County OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming drugs. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
