Bodies Of Two Construction Workers Recovered After Trench Collapse In Ajax

DURHAM REGION-Rescue crews worked diligently throughout the night hoping for a miracle after a trench suddenly collapsed on four workers on Monday in Ajax.

It happened in the area just east of Ravenscroft on Rossland Road in Ajax at around noon. A number of firefighters and heavy machinery were brought in and an “extensive recovery operation” lasted for hours.

The bodies of two men were pulled from the trench at approximately 2:30 am Tuesday. Two other workers were injured. One transported to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto with serious injuries and another was taken to a local hospital with a broken ankle.

The Ontario Ministry of Labour is on the scene to investigate the cause of the collapse.
