KAWARTHA LAKES-Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) uncovered a large drug lab this spring as the result of a lengthy investigation according to police.
On May 18, 2022 the CSCU executed a search warrant at a property in Burnt River in the City of Kawartha Lakes. As a result of the warrant officers say they seized a number of drugs and items including: 200 packages of psilocybin (20 grams per package) and 1000 packages of cannabis products (20 grams per package) and along with cell phones, computer hard drives with USBs and thousands of shipping and cannabis product labels.
The warrant was issued following a drug exportation investigation with the assistance of Canada Post postal inspectors and the Canada Border Services Agency, where it was determined that packages allegedly containing drugs were being shipped internationally.
The accused Kevin Lawson, 60 years-of-age of Somerville Township, has been charged with;
- Importing and exporting cannabis
- Possession for the purpose of exporting
- Export Schedule III Substance
- Possession of a Schedule III Substance for the Purpose of Export
The accused was released from custody, with a future court date of June 16, 2022.
