KAWARTHA LAKES-Kawartha Lakes Police Service (KLPS)will be deploying resources to IE Weldon Secondary School in Lindsay today after threats were made against the school on Thursday.
“The Kawartha Lakes Police Service conducted an investigation into a threat of potential violence that was written on a wall at  IE Weldon Secondary School in Lindsay.” Inspector Kirk Robertson said. “Police resources were dedicated to this investigation in order to ensure the safety of all in attendance at the school. Although these types of threats are often not credible, they can still causes serious concerns for all. Through collaboration with the school administration, the person responsible for the writing was identified on June 10, 2022. As a result of the investigation, it was determined that the threat was not real and that there were no safety concerns for the students or staff at the school.”
Parents contacted Kawartha 411 News on Thursday night with concerns about the “writing” in the girls’ washroom that allegedly threatened to “shoot up the school” or “shot down school”.
Some were concerned that the school had not notified parents of the threat.
Trillium Lakelands District School Board says it is aware of the writing and a video that circulated on social media.
“The school and Board are aware that there was writing on a wall in a washroom and a social video circulated in the community.” Carolynne Bull, TLDSB told Kawartha 411 News. “The Kawartha Lakes Police Service were immediately notified, have investigated and concluded that this is not a credible threat. All safety precautions have been taken at I.E. Weldon and there is no threat to our students at this time.”
