KAWARTHA LAKES-The Optimist Club of Lindsay held an official grand opening for its new soccer park pavilion on Saturday.
Mayor Andy Letham was on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. He was joined by members of the service club and Ward 5 Councillor Pat Dunn.
The St. Joseph Road building, which was largely constructed in 2019 is part of the Optimist Soccer Park, a 13-acre site with three regulation-sized fields. The park includes parking and pathways that community members have used extensively since the park opened in the summer of 2013.
During the summer of 2019, Club members invested over 1000 hours of volunteer labour to construct the storage pavilion to complement the park. The pandemic delayed the official opening.
The cost of the project was shared between the Optimists, the municipality and the Wilson Estate.
The Optimist Club of Lindsay has served the area since 1971. Founded on principles created by Optimist International, the club promotes its credo, “A Friend of Youth”, by devoting all efforts, energies, and funds to and for the betterment of youth in the City of Kawartha Lakes.
