Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For Kawartha Lakes And Peterborough

KAWARTHA LAKES-Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough.

Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:

  • Apsley – Woodview – Northern Peterborough County
  • Fenelon Falls – Balsam Lake Park – Northern Kawartha Lakes
  • Lindsay – Southern Kawartha Lakes
  • Peterborough City – Lakefield – Southern Peterborough County

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Hazards:
Nickel sized hail.
Wind gusts up to 90 km/h.
Heavy downpours.

Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles according to Environment Canada. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
