Start Times And End Times To Change At Some Local Elementary Schools

KAWARTHA LAKES-Kawartha 411 News has learned that some local elementary schools will have different start times and end times next year.

An email sent to parents at Dunsford District Elementary says next year’s classes will begin at 9:15 am and end at 3:35 pm. Presently the school day starts at 9:05 am and ends at 3:25 pm.
The new start times could leave some parents scrambling if they have to start work at 9 am.
The school says the reason for the change in the schedule is to address a shortage of drivers and to make the most of the resources available.

Officials say regular studies are conducted to assess the effectiveness of transportation routes. Most recently, a study was done in the south region of the board. These studies highlight efficiencies and deficiencies which allow for adjustments to be made. The TLDSB transportation policy ensures the most efficient and effective use of available administrative and financial resources. The changes made to transportation routes are also intended to help with driver shortages – an issue that many families were affected by this school year.

The board says it recently completed a study to assess the effectiveness of transportation routes in the south region of the Board. The recommendations made by the consultant resulted in changes to some bus routes in the City of Kawartha Lakes.

“Over the next month, schools that will have a change in bell times next school year will communicate this change directly with families. You can find updated bell times on school websites at the end of this school year and over the summer. ” said Sinead Fegan, Communications TLDSB.

Should families have any further questions, Fegan says they can contact their child’s school directly.
