Former Academy Theatre Doorman And Usherette Celebrating Their 65th Anniversary Today

KAWARTHA LAKES-They met at the Academy Theatre in Lindsay as teenagers. She was an usherette and he was a doorman.

65 years ago today George and Helen Brasier were walking down the aisle. The year was 1957. The year Elvis Presley purchased Graceland, the Soviet Union launched the first space satellite Sputnik 1, John Diefenbaker was Prime Minister and the country was grappling with the Asian Flu Pandemic.

While many things have changed others have stayed the same including their love for each other. Their granddaughter Marleah Richards says to this day they still hold hands.

When asked what has kept them together for so long the couple said they both talk through things and share their feelings.

Their advice for newlyweds?

“Talk always, be ready to put in hard work, nowadays we want everything FAST- we don’t want to wait and we don’t want to work hard. It takes hard work and time to achieve and build lasting relationships.”

Happy Anniversary!
