Winter Weather Travel Advisory Issued For Southern Kawartha Lakes And Peterborough

KAWARTHA LAKES-Environment Canada has issued another Winter Weather Travel Advisory for parts of Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough.

Weather advisory in effect for:

  • Lindsay – Southern Kawartha Lakes
  • Peterborough City – Lakefield – Southern Peterborough County

Winter weather travel advisory in effect beginning this afternoon with snow accumulations of 5 to 10 cm possible. Reduced visibility due to bursts of heavy snow and local blowing snow.

A band of lake effect snow, with peak snow fall rates of 1 to 2 cm per hour, is expected to develop off Lake Ontario this afternoon. This in combination with scattered flurries associated with an advancing cold front will make for hazardous travel conditions across the region. The snow bands will be pushed out of the region tonight as winds shift to a northerly direction in the wake of the cold front.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution and should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
