City Of Kawartha Lakes OPP Charge Two People With Impaired Driving On New Year’s Eve

KAWARTHA LAKES-Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP arrested two drivers allegedly found to be impaired on New Year’s Eve.

Police say at approximately 3:00 pm on December 31, 2021 while out on patrol officers came across a minor two vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 7 and 35. A Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted, along with a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Evaluation upon one of the drivers.

Kenneth Orr, 45 years-of-age, of Lindsay has been charged with;

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Careless driving

Shortly after the first incident at approximately 3:30 pm, officers responded to another two vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 7 near Oakwood.

Garry Kwiet, 60 years-of-age, of Scarborough has been charged with;

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Both charged drivers also had their licences suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days.
