UPDATE: RAINFALL WARNING ENDED
KAWARTHA LAKES-Environment Canada has issued two weather warnings for parts of the City of Kawartha Lakes.
Wind warning in effect for:
- Lindsay – Southern Kawartha Lakes
- Peterborough City – Lakefield – Southern Peterborough County
Strong winds expected late Saturday.
Hazards:
Strong winds gusting to 90 km/h.
When:
Late Saturday afternoon or evening into the overnight hours.
Discussion:
A cold front will sweep through southern Ontario Saturday afternoon and evening bringing strong winds.
Impacts:
Utility outages may occur.
Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.
Special weather statement in effect for:
- Apsley – Woodview – Northern Peterborough County
- Fenelon Falls – Balsam Lake Park – Northern Kawartha Lakes

Hazards:
Strong winds gusting between 70 and 80 km/h.
When:
Late this afternoon or this evening.
Impacts:
Utility outages may occur.
Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.
Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.
Discussion:
A cold front will sweep through northeastern and southern Ontario this afternoon and evening bringing strong winds. Wind warnings may be issued for some regions.
Rainfall warning in effect for:
- Apsley – Woodview – Northern Peterborough County
- Fenelon Falls – Balsam Lake Park – Northern Kawartha Lakes
- Lindsay – Southern Kawartha Lakes
- Peterborough City – Lakefield – Southern Peterborough County
Heavy rain is expected tonight and Saturday.
Hazards:
Rain, at times heavy. Rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm.
When:
Beginning late this evening and continuing through Saturday afternoon.
Discussion:
A strengthening low pressure system is forecast to track northeast across the Great Lakes on Saturday, bringing heavy rain.
The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall. Melting snow will also contribute to runoff.

Impacts:
Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
