Inquest Ordered Into Death Of Immigrant Detainee Transferred From Lindsay Jail To PRHC

KAWARTHA LAKES-Dr. Paul Dungey, Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Kingston Office, announced Friday that an inquest has been scheduled into the death of Abdurahman Hassan.

Hassan, a 39 year old immigration detainee, died at Peterborough Regional Health Centre  on June 11, 2015, after being transferred from the Central East Correction Centre in Lindsay.

An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Hassan’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

The inquest is expected to last 15 days and will hear from approximately 20 witnesses.

The inquest will start at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, November 29, 2021. Dr. David Eden will preside as inquest officer and Jai Dhar will be the inquest counsel.
