KAWARTHA LAKES-Two Toronto residents are facing drug and weapons charges after a traffic stop Saturday evening.
Peterborough Police say at approximately 8:30pm on October 23, 2021, officers observed a near-miss collision at the intersection of George Street North and Simcoe Street and initiated a traffic stop. During the stop, officers allegedly learned that the driver was suspended and took him into custody.  In a search of the suspect officers located a loaded handgun with a magazine and a second loaded magazine on him according to police.  A passenger in the vehicle was also arrested and a spring-loaded folding knife was allegedly found.
Police say during a subsequent search of the driver, officers found 21 grams of heroin and 18 grams of crack-cocaine, cash and a cell phone
As a result of the investigation,
20-year-old Tyrek Powell of Toronto was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- Carry Concealed Weapon
- Traffick in schedule l substance – Heroin
- Traffick in schedule l substance – Crack Cocaine
- Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
- Unauthorized possession of firearm
- Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a fire arm
- Careless storage of firearm, weapons, or prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
- Resist Peace Officer
- Drive while under suspension
The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at which time the accused was remanded into custody and will appear in court on October 26, 2021.
20-year-old Aaliyah Abdalla of Toronto was arrested and charged with:
- Carry Concealed Weapon
- Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
- Possession of prohibited device or ammunition
The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at which time the accused was issued a release order and is scheduled to appear in court November 2, 2021.
