Globus Theatre Welcomes DORA Award Winner Gabi Epstein In A Tribute To Barbara Streisand

KAWARTHA LAKES-Following a sold-out run of Shirley Valentine, Globus Theatre shows no sign of stopping, welcoming a multi-award-winning singer to be the star for their next show.

Hailed “Canada’s Queen of Cabaret” by CTV’s eTalk, Gabi Epstein is a DORA award winner and one of Canada’s leading stage/cabaret performers. Best known for playing Audrey in “Little Shop of Horrors” at the Stratford Festival and Fanny Brice in “Funny Girl” at the Segal Centre and for the Harold Green Jewish Theatre, Globus Theatre is excited to be bringing this show to their stage for the final week of their 18th summer season! Audiences will enjoy new exciting arrangements of Don’t Rain on My Parade, People, Papa Can You Hear Me, Happy Days are Here Again, and so much more.

When asked about her inspiration, Gabi said:

“I had written a very loose version of ‘Gabs Sings Babs’ as a cabaret for the Toronto Jazz Festival back in 2015. I had been singing Streisand songs for many years and thought that putting reimagined arrangements of them altogether would be a great way of telling some of my own personal and professional stories. But I didn’t go nearly as far as I wanted to. The show was still more about “Babs” than about “Gabs”. So I reworked it using my own story as the narrative arch. I had been wanting to do this for a while but (luckily) work got in the way and I never had the time. These past couple of years we’ve had a chance to pause which, for me was a perfect time to create something reflective. What I have loved about reworking the show now is that the music is the constant. I can rely on Streisand’s extraordinary legacy of songs to help me tell my own story.”

You won’t want to miss Gabi as she shares her own journey of self-discovery through reimagined versions of her idol Barbra Streisand’s greatest hits. A touching, reflective, and (of course) FUNNY show, “Gabs Sings Babs” reminds us to remain true to ourselves by celebrating, not hiding from what makes us truly unique.

A three-course tables d’hôte dinner will be served in the dining room, with the show to follow. Both dinner and show are socially distanced cabaret-style seating; masks are required when moving around the building; and they have a limit of 50 people per performance for your safety.
