Canadians Heading To The Polls On September 20th

KAWARTHA LAKES-Liberal leader Justin Trudeau has called an Election.

The Prime Minister met with Governor-General Mary Simon this morning to dissolve parliament, triggering an election.

“I had a conversation with Her Excellency The Governor-General of Canada and she accepted the request to dissolve parliament and Canadians will go to the polls on September 20th.” Justin Trudeau stated outside Rideau Hall this morning.

He went on to talk about the pandemic.

“The last 17 months have been like nothing we have ever experienced, a global pandemic,  global recession and global climate crisis. You are probably wondering what this means for you, your job, your kids, your retirement and our country and that’s fair.”

He then praised Canadians for their efforts throughout the pandemic.

“Look at what Canadians did during this time of crisis when this pandemic struck, Canadians dug deep. You rolled up your sleeves to lead the world on vaccination, you showed what mettle we are made of.”

Now he says the future is up to you.

“We were there for you and now it’s up to you to choose, the decisions you make now will define the future for you and your grandchildren and now you have to choose.”

As for the reasoning for calling an election during the pandemic Trudeau said Canadians deserve a choice.

“Over the last 17 months, we have made some monumental decisions. Canadians should have a say in what happens during the next 17 months, the next 17 years.”

“The past year has been hard for everyone, during the pandemic you stayed home and got vaccinated and now we can see our friends and loved ones, we should not imperil all of that for political games and gains,” said Conservative leader Erin O’Toole. “Let’s face it this election is not about the next 17 months it’s about the next four years. We’ve been promised solutions year after year by the liberals and they have let us down”

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh said this is a selfish election. “These are hard times, the pandemic has struck hard and we know workers and businesses are facing tough challenges. Despite things getting worse we see Justin Trudeau focusing on an election, some people say we are all in the same boat. We are in the same storm but not the same boat. Some road out the pandemic in luxury yachts while others were in leaky boats and Justin Trudeau allowed that. The richest Canadians increased their wealth by 75 billion over the pandemic.” Singh said.

“The last election cost us millions. Let’s ask ourselves what we could have done with that money and how many Canadians we could have help with that money. Green Pary leader Annamie Paul said. “We are here because the liberals have decided they want all the power, they want a majority and this is the best way to get it.”
