Local Resident Charged With Assaulting Police Officer In Peterborough

KAWARTHA LAKES-A 28-year-old City of Kawartha Lakes man is facing several charges after an incident Friday afternoon in Peterborough.

At approximately 4:00pm on May 28, 2021, an officer on patrol pulled over a vehicle in a parking lot in the area of Crawford Drive and the Parkway after lallegedly earning the driver had a warrant out for his arrest by City of Kawartha Lakes OPP.

Police say once stopped, the driver of the vehicle approached the officer’s vehicle and when informed of the warrant began to resist arrest and push the officer.  Several citizens stepped in to assist, including an off-duty officer.

As a result of the investigation, 28-year-old Robert Jolly of City of Kawartha Lakes was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault with intent to resist arrest
  • Resist Peace Officer

And Highway Traffic Act charges:

  • Driving while under suspension
  • Improper muffler – motor vehicle
  • Improper tires

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on June 30, 2021.
