OPP Busy Over The Long Weekend

KAWARTHA LAKES-Officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP were busy over the long weekend with multiple traffic complaints and enforcement.

Police say on May 23, 2021 an officer conducted a vehicle stop on Kawartha Lakes Road 121 after observing a motorcycle allegedly travelling at 142km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The driver, a 58 year old local resident was charged and received a seven day driver’s licence suspension. The motor cycle was towed from the scene to be impounded for seven days, as part of the offence.

Also on May 23, 2021 an officer stopped a vehicle after it was observed passing other vehicles on Portage Road in an unsafe manner according to police. The ensuing investigation revealed that the 23 year old driver was suspended from driving. As a result, the driver was charged with speeding, passing not in safety and driving while suspended, all contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On May 24, 2021 at 9:42p.m. an officer observed a vehicle fail to stop for the stop sign at Clifton Street and Kawartha Lakes Road 121 and subsequently stopped the vehicle. The ensuing investigation revealed that the driver was allegedly suspended from driving. This resulted in the driver being charged with both of the Highway Traffic Act related offences.

Also on May 24, 2021 a vehicle was stopped on Highway 7 near White Rock Road when an officer observed it travelling at 167km/h in an 80km/h zone according to police. The 18 year old driver was charged with stunt driving – excessive speed and received a seven day driver’s licence suspension. The vehicle was towed from the scene to be impounded for seven days.

The OPP is no longer releasing names of those charged with Highway Traffic Act offences.
