Ministry Of Natural Resources And Forestry Battling Fire North Of Burnt River

KAWARTHA LAKES-Crews with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry(MNRF), along with local fire departments, are battling a forest fire between Burnt River and Kinmount.

The fire is just off of Highway 121 near Galway Road and was initially reported as “not under control”.  A number of residents in the area reported at least nine fire trucks heading that way at approximately 4:30pm on Saturday.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says they received a request for assistance from the Trent Lakes Fire Department.

“Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services received a request for assistance from the Trent Lakes Fire Department for a municipal fire Saturday evening, April 24.” Isabelle Chenard, Communications MNRF told Kawartha 411 News.  “Over the weekend, 2 FireRanger crews provided assistance to the municipal fire department near Galway Rd.”

Chenard says no aerial fire suppression assistance was required. The Bancroft 2 fire is currently being held at 9.1 hectares.
