Go Fund Me Campaign Set Up For Pregnant Woman Paralyzed In Crash Near Lindsay

KAWARTHA LAKES-A Go Fund Me campaign has been set up to help the family of a pregnant woman who was paralyzed in a car crash near Lindsay on Tuesday.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene of a three vehicle collision on Highway 35 at River Road. The highway was closed for hours between Tower Road and Highway 7, while the OPP conducted an investigation. Two people were taken to a Toronto area hospital with serious injuries.

Friends and family say one of the victims was 30-year-old Jessi Rate, who was 8 months pregnant at the time of the crash.

“She was flown to Sunnybrook Hospital and after a lengthy surgery, she has now been left paralyzed from the waist down and will never walk again.” said the Go Fund Me campaign.  “She’s 8 months pregnant with her baby girl. She also has a beautiful 3 year old son named Levi and a young step-son named Peeta, who she shares with her boyfriend Mason.”

The organizers of the campaign say the baby was successfully delivered via emergency c-section and she is doing well.

The campaign is fundraising to help the young family find a home that is wheelchair accessible.

“Now they will need help more than ever as they will need somewhere wheelchair accessible, as well as a vehicle that can accommodate a wheelchair,  and various medical bills as she will be in the hospital for quite some time, as well as to support their 3 young children as they work their way through this extremely difficult and new time.”

So far almost $60,000 of a $150,000 goal has been reached.

“Anyone who knows Jess knows what a great person she is. She has a huge heart and is full of light and happiness. She is strong and resilient, but this young family will need help getting back on their feet.”
