KAWARTHA LAKES- A Georgina man has been arrested for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of break in instruments, mischief and failing to comply with probation order.
Police say on March 31, 2021 at 7:40am City of Kawartha Lakes Police were called to a Mill Street address in Lindsay for a break and enter in progress.
A male known to the resident and an unknown female were reportedly banging on doors at this location. Police say after an argument between the two, the female left the area and the male continued to bang on doors before leaving the area. Out of concern, the resident barricaded the door, fearing the male’s return.
According to police the male did return, he began knocking and kicking causing damage to the door attempting to gain entry before leaving the area. The resident exited the residence and used a saw to cut wood to secure the door. The male returned again, picked up the circular saw and began cutting through the door to gain entry. Police were called, officers located the male in the backyard at the residence. The male dropped a knife in his possession and fled. The suspect damaged a neighbouring fence attempting to flee from pursuing officer.
The suspect was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. 34-year-old Justin Rentrop of Georgina is charged with possession of break in instruments, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, mischief under $5000 X2 and failing to comply with probation order. The accused was held in custody to attend a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice.
Rentrop has a lengthly criminal record including previous similar incidents.
