Sawed Off Rifle, Drugs and Stolen Property Seized In Traffic Stop In Peterborough

PETERBOROUGH-A local resident is facing a slew of charges after a vehicle stop on Lansdowne Street in Peterborough.

Members of the Peterborough County OPP stopped a vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act offence on Lansdowne Street West at approximately 12:30am on March 28, 2021. Police say the investigation revealed that the vehicle had been stolen from a City of Peterborough residence on March 20, 2021 and matched the description of a vehicle involved in a series of break and enters in Peterborough County.

A sawed off rifle, stolen property and illicit drugs were located during a search of the vehicle according to officers.

Lucan WATTERS (age 43) of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Township, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

• Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order

• Possession property obtained by crime-over $5000

• Break, enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence

• Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm

• Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm

• Possession of a Schedule I substance-opioid

Phillip SIMPSON (age 39) of Otonabee-South Monaghan Township was arrested and charged with:

• Possession property obtained by crime-over $5000

• Break, enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence

• Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm

• Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm

• Possession of a Schedule I substance-opioid

The accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on May 6, 2021S
