Go Fund Me Campaign Started For Beloved Daycare Worker Hit By Alleged Drunk Driver In Oshawa

KAWARTHA LAKES-A Go Fund Me campaign has been set up for a beloved daycare worker who was hit by an alleged drunk driver in Oshawa on Thursday March 25th.

40 year old Mandy Sheppard was waiting for the school bus to drop off a child to Park Child Care Centre on Park Street in Oshawa at approximately 3:30 pm.

Police received reports that the involved vehicle, a 2021 black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was westbound on Malaga Road when the vehicle suddenly left the roadway and struck the female pedestrian in the parking lot of a commercial lot pinning her against the north wall of the building.
Sheppard was rushed to a Toronto trauma centre with critical injuries and she remains in stable but critical condition.

Her family says it took two police officers and 6 bystanders to move the vehicle off of her.

“This tragic nightmare happened to a beautiful, genuine, generous Mandy, while she  waited for the school bus with her daycare kids to be dropped off Thursday afternoon. She has given 14 years to this daycare. These kids and families mean so much to her. I have never seen anyone have the passion and genuine love for their job as she does. She is definitely the heart and soul of this place, it’s not just a job to her.” said the Go Fund Me page set up to help her family with expenses related to the incident.

Roxanne Power one of the organizers of the campaign said Mandy was put into a medically induced coma after suffering countless injuries and has already undergone at least three surgeries.

Mandy is married and has two boys, Camren and Jackson.

In the interest of transparency, my granddaughter has attended this daycare for years and she absolutely adores Mandy. In fact Mandy was waiting for my granddaughter to be dropped off when this tragedy occurred. Mandy has been an integral part of the daycare for 14 years.

“These kids and families mean so much to her. I have never seen anyone have the passion and genuine love for their job as she does. She is definitely the heart and soul of this place, it’s not just job to her.” stated Power on the campaign page.

The driver of the pick-up truck, a 57-year-old male, of Whitby, was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Conveyance Causing Bodily Harm and Operate Conveyance 80 Milligrams or Above. He was held for a bail hearing.

The road was closed for several hours while members from the Collision Investigation Unit examined the collision scene and collected evidence. Police are still investigating the cause of the collision.
Anyone with new information about this investigation is asked to contact D/Cst. Bryson of the Collision Investigation Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5255.
Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters may be eligible for a $2,000 cash reward.
“Mandy is the type of person who never puts herself first. It’s an argument to try and get her to do anything for herself.  She’s the first to think of others, whether it’s her family or someone who just needs help.” said Power. “Mandy has always been our rock and now it’s our turn to be her rock.”
The family is hoping to raise money to help with expenses going forward. To donate please go to :https://www.gofundme.com/f/mandys-recovery-and-healing?utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet&utm_medium=copy_link_all&utm_source=customer
