Two People Facing Impaired Driving Charges After Complaints From The Public

KAWARTHA LAKES-Two separate complaints recently received by Kawartha Lakes OPP resulted in the arrest of alleged impaired drivers.

Police say on February 5, 2021 an officer from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the OPP received information related to a potentially impaired driver while refuelling the cruiser. The officer was subsequently able to locate the vehicle and the ensuing investigation led to the driver, Daniel Smith, 39 years of age, of Halton, being charged with the Criminal Code offence of operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

On February 6, 2021 information was received pertaining to a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner according to police. An officer from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the OPP responded and located the vehicle in the area of Killarney Bay Road and Glenarm Road. The officer entered into an investigation which resulted in the arrest of the driver.

Travis Sprague, 31 years of age, of Lindsay, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance – Methamphetamine, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Police remind residents not to drink or do drugs and drive. Always plan for a safe ride home.
