Civilian Caught Up In Police Incident On Pigeon Lake Road Was Injured And Is Unable to Work

KAWARTHA LAKES-Ron Hill was in the wrong place at the wrong time according to a Go Fund Me campaign set up to help him.

Hill was allegedly driving to work on a foggy November 26th morning when he was caught up in a police involved shooting incident that left two people dead.

The Special Investigations Unit says a 33-year-old man and his one-year-old son sustained gunshot wounds during an interaction between the father and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers in the City of Kawartha Lakes. The father had allegedly abducted the child from a home in Trent Lakes. The baby was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the father succumbed to his injuries almost one week later.

Hill drove over a spike strip that had been thrown out in front of him by the OPP in an attempt to stop the suspect, according to the fundraiser.

The campaign says the truck driven by the father slammed into the back of Hills truck at an estimated speed of almost 170km/hr.

“This sent Ron and his truck sailing across the road in the opposite direction and he collided with the police cars that had been parked along both sides of the road. Ron got out of his truck to see what had happened to have just enough time to duck down as the father and police exchanged gunfire which ultimately led to the death of the abducted child.” stated the campaign.

Hill, a self employed contractor, has been off work since the accident could be be for several months while he heals mentally and physically. His truck and tools for work have been seized by police and he is left with no transportation.
