Go Fund Me campaign set up for mother of little boy found dead in police incident on Pigeon Lake Road

KAWARTHA LAKES-We have been notified that a Go Fund Me has been set up for mother of the little boy who was found dead on Thursday during an incident involving police on Pigeon Lake Road in Kawartha Lakes.

The little boy is identified as Jameson Michael. The Go Fund Me states:

“In loving memory of Jameson Micheal, an eighteen-month-old little boy who tragically lost his life on November 26th 2020 in Kawartha Lakes, ON. Jameson was a bubbly boy who was known for sharing his warmth and cheerfulness with everyone around him. His smile will be remembered by all who experienced it.”

The post goes on to say his mom is a single mother who raised her “two autistic boys and is now mourning the loss of her youngest, and her surviving son”.

The child was found deceased in the back seat of a truck involved in an incident with police on November 26th according to the OPP.

Police say at approximately 8:48 a.m. members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the OPP responded to a call for service in the Municipality of Trent Lakes related to a domestic dispute involving a firearm.

Police from the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP attempted to stop the vehicle involved in the dispute and there was a motor vehicle collision between the vehicle and an OPP cruiser at a location on Pigeon Lake Road in the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Police say an altercation occurred between the male driver and officers. The male was apprehended, with the assistance of members of the Kawartha Lakes Police Service. The male was transported to a Toronto area trauma centre with serious injuries.

A CKL OPP officer also sustained serious injury and is being treated in Toronto.

A post-mortem on the child was scheduled for Saturday morning in Toronto.

The Special Investigations Unit says investigators have collected three police-issued firearms from the scene which will be sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences for analysis. A fourth firearm – a handgun – was located in the pickup truck. Investigators are in the process of taking possession of the handgun.

Three subject officers and 13 witness officers have been designated and two civilian witnesses have been interviewed according to the SIU. The vehicle will be taken to the Centre of Forensic Sciences for examination.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.

The goal for the Go Fund Me campaign is $30,000. Within a few hours it has almost reached the goal. The funds will be used to help the mom with the expenses in their next phase of life according to the organizer.
