KAWARTHA LAKES-A staff member at Victoria Manor in Lindsay who tested positive for Coronavirus last week has now tested negative, according to the City.
The City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL) operates the 166 bed long term care facility in Lindsay. A staff member tested positive last week during routine screening at the home and was asymptomatic.
“The retest swab has come back negative, the staff member remains asymptomatic and is awaiting direction from Public Health.” Cheri Davidson, Communications CKL told Kawartha 411.
The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge (HKPR) District Health Unit says they are frequently seeing more cases considered to be “remote positives”.
“These cases are called remote positives and typically is someone who had a COVID-19 infection earlier in the pandemic that went undetected. That person has now been tested, for whatever reason, and the test has come back as positive as the test is still detecting material from a previous infection.” Chandra Tremblay, Communications HKPR told Kawartha 411 News.
Tremblay says based on guidance documents for case and contact management, public health units need to assess the pre-test probability for each COVID-19 case who was identified through routine surveillance testing and was asymptomatic at, or around the time of their positive test result.
Someone considered to be a low pre-test probability will be asked to get tested again immediately. If those test results come back negative, the person is deemed not infectious and does not need to be followed up by the health unit or isolate.
