Bystanders rescued a number of people after two boats collided on Pigeon River

KAWARTHA LAKES-Bystanders rescued nine people who were in the water after two boats collided on Pigeon River.

Police and Kawartha Lakes Fire and Rescue were called to the scene at approximately 4:45pm on Thursday. Police say a number of people were found in the water and brought to shore by residents nearby. Residents also helped return the boats to shore according to police.  A fishing boat and a larger boat collided on the south part of Pigeon Lake north of Emily Park according to police. Numerous ambulances were called to the scene.

Three persons (two adults and a youth) were transported to area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A 66 year old Omemee resident has been charged with Operating a Vessel in a Careless Manner contrary to the Canada Shipping Act Small Vessel Regulations.
