Omemee man charged with assaulting a police officer

KAWARTHA LAKES-Omemee man charged with assaulting a police officer after an altercation at a local residence.

Officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP were called to a residence in Omemee in response to an altercation on February 8th.

Upon arrival on scene, officers determined that the accused had allegedly assaulted two persons. During the investigation the accused then indicated that he had a firearm in the residence. Officers were able to arrest the accused party who then caused damage to the police cruiser while being transported back to the OPP detachment according to police.

Wessley Kurely, 21 years of age, of Omemee, was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Two counts of Assault
  • Mischief, under $5 000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime, under $5 000
  • Assault a police officer while threatening to use a weapon
