Lindsay church offering free Community Christmas Dinner for those in need

KAWARTHA LAKES-Christmas is a time for big family gatherings, lots of food and reflecting on the blessings in your life.

Christmas can also be a lonely, sad and isolating time for those who don’t have family or  are struggling to make ends meet.

With that in mind a local church is planning to have a Free Community Christmas Dinner  on Sunday, Dec. 8th. There are three sittings – 4 pm, 5pm, 6pm and they are also giving away $1500 in Giant Tiger Gift Cards at the meal. ($500 each sitting) The dinner is open to everyone.

The dinner is called Valerie’s Blessing in honour of a local woman who attended Calvary Pentecostal Church since she was nine years old. Valerie Brunst passed away last year at the age of 77 and left the bulk of her estate to the church. The church decided to “pay it forward” and help the community at large.

Some may remember Valerie standing outside of her little house on Highway 36, 7km north of town hitching a ride into Lindsay. Organizers say she would attend church and then head to one of her favorite stores, Giant Tiger.

This is the first year Calvary will be doing a Christmas Dinner like this. There is going to be Turkey, Potatoes & all the Fixings, and it’s all free. There are no strings attached.

“So come enjoy some food, some prizes and, what we all value so much around the holidays, time with other people.” says Pastor Joel Holtz.

The dinner is at: Calvary Pentecostal Church 125, Victoria Ave North, Lindsay.
