Special Weather Statement issued as “significant” snowfall expected on Sunday

KAWARTHA LAKES-Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough area.

Significant snowfall is expected on Sunday in the following areas:

  • Apsley – Woodview – Northern Peterborough County
  • Fenelon Falls – Balsam Lake Park – Northern Kawartha Lakes
  • Lindsay – Southern Kawartha Lakes
  • Peterborough City – Lakefield – Southern Peterborough County

A strengthening low pressure system is expected to bring significant snowfall to the region beginning Sunday and continuing through Sunday night before tapering off Monday morning according to officials. The bulk of the precipitation is expected to fall throughout the day on Sunday. Strong wind gusts up to 70 km/h and local blowing snow reducing visibilities are also possible.

Environment Canada say’s there remains some uncertainty as to the track of the low; however, there is the potential that some areas could see total snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm by Monday morning.
