Company charged after commercial vehicle driver allegedly had improper licence

KAWARTHA LAKES-A company is facing charges after one of it’s drivers was charged with having with an improper licence.

Police say on November 16, 2019 an OPP officer from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment was on patrol in the Kirkfield area when a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) was observed failing to stop at the stop sign. The CMV was subsequently stopped and the driver, Richard English, 68 years of age, was charged with the following offences:

  • Disobey stop sign – fail to stop, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Driver commercial motor vehicle – improper licence, contrary to the HTA

Further investigation resulted in the driver having his licence suspended for 3 days and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

The company was also charged with the offence of permit person to drive commercial motor vehicle in contravention of condition, contrary to the HTA.

The name of the company was not released.
