Slippery roads make morning commute treacherous

KAWARTHA LAKES-Slippery, snowy roads made for a scary commute this morning for some drivers.

Mosport Road was reportedly a “skating rink” with a number of vehicles, including tractor trailers in the ditch.

Highway 115 was no better according to motorists. A big rig rolled into the ditch near Millbrook early this morning.

There’s no word on injuries.

A Special Weather Statement is in effect for the Southern portion of Kawartha Lakes and parts of Peterborough.

A low pressure system is expected to bring a messy mix of precipitation this morning. Any lingering rain near Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence river early this morning will quickly change over to snow. This snow will then impact the morning commute before exiting the area by mid to late morning.

The fresh snow in combination with falling temperatures through the morning may cause roads to become icy or slippery. As a result, motorists are advised to be prepared for difficult driving conditions this morning.

Police are advising residents to take it easy on the way to work this morning.
