Special Weather Statement issued for Kawartha Lakes

KAWARTHA LAKES-Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough.

The alert is in effect for:

  • Apsley – Woodview – Northern Peterborough County
  • Fenelon Falls – Balsam Lake Park – Northern Kawartha Lakes
  • Lindsay – Southern Kawartha Lakes
  • Peterborough City – Lakefield – Southern Peterborough County

According to officials isolated thunderstorms producing small hail and gusty winds is possible this afternoon.

Isolated thunderstorms, capable of producing wind gusts to 70 or 80 km/h and pea sized hail, will move through the region this afternoon.

Environment Canada meteorologists will continue to monitor these thunderstorms closely.

Note that Environment Canada’s severe thunderstorm warning criteria are 2 cm hail, wind gusts to 90 km/h, and 50 mm of rain in an hour or less.
