Homes evacuated as as crews battle uncontrolled forest fire south of Bancroft

UPDATE:The Ministry has removed this fire from their active fire map. There are reports the fire is now out but we are awaiting confirmation.

KAWARTHA LAKES-An uncontrolled forest fire near Bancroft has forced residents from their homes.

The Ministry of Natural Resources says the BAN016 fire southeast of Brinklow Lake, started on Saturday afternoon and is not under control. The fire is approximately five acres at this time.

The OPP closed Highway 62 near Coe Hill Road for a few hours on Saturday but the highway has since reopened. The Opp says homes in the area were evacuated. There’s no word on whether residents have yet been able to return home.
