46 charges under Liquor Licence Act laid by OPP on area waterways last weekend

KAWARTHA LAKES-The City of Kawartha Lakes OPP is reminding boaters to leave the alcohol at home when they head out onto the waterways this weekend.

Police say the regional SAVE (Snow Vehicle, All Terrain Vehicle, Vessel Enforcement/Education) team conducted patrols with local Conservation Officers, on 17 different bodies of water within the Haliburton and City of Kawartha Lakes area last weekend.

The team issued one 3-day suspension, 14 marine related charges and 46 charges related to offences under the Liquor Licence Act (LLA).

Mixing alcohol with boating is dangerous according to police. If caught operating a vessel impaired, the penalties are the same as impaired driving.

Let’s make this a fun and safe weekend – don’t cruise with booze.
