Peterborough Police charge two men in less than a week with Child Luring

PETERBOROUGH-Peterborough Police have charged two men with Child Luring in the last week.

On July 5th a 28-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with child luring as a result of an online investigation.

Police say during the investigation the accused engaged in online chats with someone he believed was a 14-year-old girl when in reality the accused was in communication with a member of the Peterborough Police Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit.

As a result of the investigation, Jessie Smith, 28, of Peterborough, is charged with the following:

  • Child luring for sexual interference
  • Child luring for invitation to sexual touching
  • Child luring and commit indecent act
  • Child luring to commit sexual assault.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on July 5, 2019.

Meanwhile a 58 –year- old- Peterborough man was charged with child luring on July 4th.

According to police the accused engaged in online chats with someone he believed was a 14-year-old girl. The accused made arrangements to meet the girl for a sexual encounter when in reality he was also in communication with a member of the Peterborough Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE).

Steve Darrington, of Peterborough is charged with child luring for sexual interference, child luring for invitation to sexual touching, child luring to make child pornography and child luring to commit sexual assault.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on July 4, 2019.

The Peterborough Police Service is a member of the Provincial Strategy to Protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation on the internet.
