KAWARTHA LAKES-An OPP officer was conducting traffic enforcement on highway 7, utilizing a police cruiser equipped with an automatic licence plate recognition technology.
Police sat the officer received information from the ALPR that a licence plate had been reported stolen and the officer subsequently attempted to conduct a traffic stop.  The vehicle failed to stop but was not pursued in the interest of public safety. The same vehicle was later located abandoned on the Ganaraska Trails according to police.
The alleged driver, Neil MacFarlane, 34 years of age, of Burlington, was located a short distance from the abandoned vehicle and was subsequently arrested. He faces the following Criminal Code charges:
- Adult Theft, Over $5,000, of a Motor Vehicle.
- Adult Possession Property Obtained by Crime, Under $5,000.
- Adult Dangerous operation.
- Adult Flight from peace officer.
- Fail to Comply with Probation
