Cocaine seized after vehicle stop in Bobcaygeon

KAWARTHA LAKES-Two people are facing charges after a vehicle stop in Bobcaygeon.

Police say on June 22 an officer from the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP initiated a vehicle stop on Front Street East, in the Village of Bobcaygeon. Investigation confirmed that the driver was suspended from driving according to police. Further investigation revealed that the driver was allegedly in possession of cocaine. As a result, Brian Burns, 57 years of age, of Bobcaygeon, was charged with the following offences:

  • Two counts of driving while under suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Fail to surrender permit, contrary to the HTA
  • Fail to surrender insurance card, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – cocaine, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime, over $5 000, contrary to the Criminal Code

Police say the officer seized 5.1 grams of cocaine. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

The lone passenger, James Finley, 45 years of age, of Bobcaygeon, was charged with having liquor in an open container.
