KAWARTHA LAKES-Sir Sam’s Inn & Spa in Eagle Lake is Canada’s first publicly cannabis-friendly resort, according to an announcement from Cannabis Hotels online travel advisory.

Cannabis Hotels is excited to support Canada’s emerging cannabis tourism industry by partnering with Sir Sam’s Inn & Spa, according to the announcement. Based in Haliburton Highlands, Sir Sam’s Inn & Spa offers experiences such as kayaking, hiking, sailing, lake activities and evening bonfires through summer. In the winter, the resort offers downhill skiing, dogsledding and snowmobiling. Smoking/vaping is not permitted in the resort’s suites, but guests have access to balconies as well as other designated areas for smoking/vaping. With infused edibles and oils set to become legal on or before Oct. 17 this year, the resort is expecting no impact or disturbance to other guests, according to the announcement.

“Sir Sam’s Inn & Spa is taking a leadership role in developing Ontario as a premium Cannabis Tourism destination, which will open opportunities for others across the province and build Canada’s brand internationally,” said Wendy Forwell, founder and CEO of Cannabis Hotels. “We are so pleased to be partnered with this resort as they take this important step for the industry.”

Sir Sam’s Inn & Spa has a 100 year of history and the decision to make this resort cannabis friendly is a milestone for the resort, according to the announcement. The resort was once the estate of historic Canadian Minister Sir Samuel Hughes and offers an adults-only environment to reconnect with nature.

“At Sir Sam’s we strive to give our guests upscale experiences that are unique to our region, our history and our culture,” said Jon Massey, the resort’s director of Business Development. “It’s important to be proactive in our industry to ensure an inclusive experience for all guests staying with us, whether they are using cannabis or not.”
